Invergeachy
Layout information
Invergeachy was originally eighteen foot long and twenty eight inches wide and was permanently set up in my lounge. After receiving invites to local exhibitions I realised an extension was needed if it were to continue on the exhibition circuit. Invergeachy has now grown into the thirty four foot layout that we exhibit today.
Invergeachy features a small town station reprieved from near closure by Transport for Scotland with a former Transrail enterprise depot for added interest. A regular DMU service runs from Invergeachy to Glenfoy which is located at the opposite end of the layout. Invergeachy encompasses the changeover from the former Transrail Freight unit to EWS ownership and the eventual handover of the Scotrail National Express Franchise to First Scotrail, taking the theme forward into the present Century.
There is a large selection of stock running on Invergeachy which includes a regular mail train and enterprise service, oil, timber, cement and various engineers' trains are also included. A portion of the Fort William sleeper service calls at Invergeachy along with an excursion train and the EWS executive train. Loco classes represented are 08, 37, 47, 56, 60,66 and class 67. DMU classes are
150/2,156,158 and 170/4. It has taken over six years for Invergeachy to reach the current stage. The original Layout was built by my good friend Graham Shriever while I concentrated on Ballasting and Scenery.
Recent changes to Invergeachy have seen an extension to the fiddle yard, as this was needed to accommodate the increasing amount of new locos, units and rolling stock that have been added over the last couple of years. This has given three extra roads
which are over twelve foot long and help make the operation flow smoother at exhibitions. I have also gone over to Digital command Control (DCC). This gives a more authentic and realistic feel to Invergeachy, bringing to life all those essential railway sounds that were originally missing.
Invergeachy is available for exhibitions and I welcome enquiries from exhibition managers who may be interested in having Invergeachy attend their exhibition. We are based in South East London and are happy to travel UK wide to promote contemporary modelling and hopefully inspire would be modellers to have a go for themselves. After all it's all about sharing and promoting the hobby.
Invergeachy is owned by Jim McGeachy and has its own website here
