Leavesden
Layout Information
Leavesden is a fictitious location on the outskirts of Biggin Hill and is the station serving Biggin Hill International airport. The airport
has been developed since WW2 and now has regular flights to most European destinations and the United States.
The station is served by local services from Victoria and Charing Cross as well as connections from Gatwick, and the south coast. There is also a DEMU service from Brighton via the non electrified line between Redhill and Biggin Hill via Godstone. Leavesden also has an Inter City cross country service from Manchester via Birmingham new street.
There are a few parcels and postal trains which call with airfreight and Royal Mail items both for local and international delivery.
The runway at Biggin Hill airport is in the process of being extended and the terminal is also being enlarged, the roadstone for these
projects is being supplied by ARC and although the unloading area is off the layout the empty trains are stabled in the yard from time to time.
Fuel for the airport is supplied by rail from Thameshaven to the fuel siding opposite the engineers yard from where it is piped to the storage tanks at the airport. At this time the fuel is delivered in TTBs (soon to be changed to TEAs)
There is a small loco stabling / fuelling point for locomotives working in the area on both freight and departmental services.
Leavesden is 49 foot long x 2 foot 6 inches wide and is available for exhibitions.
